Friday Feature: 23rd March Holographic Backup

It's time for you to start the show but your back-up act is nowhere to be found. Maybe Jabba the Hutt has tossed your dancers into a rancor pit or the Empire has arrested all your musicians. Either way, the show must go on!

Don't fret! You can create back-up performers that will follow your lead as you dance across the stage or play a tune for the audience. With the new Holography expertise for entertainers, back-up performers are always happy to help enhance your performance.

Holographic performers can fill out a one person show or be used in concert with other entertainers to put on a really big performance.

Entertainers get their first opportunity to create a hologram at level 26 if they purchase the Holography ability through the profession expertise system. After that, entertainers can pursue Holographic Mastery at any time by purchasing additional expertise. Here is how it works:

Holography: Enhance your act with a holographic back-up entertainer at level 26. If you have 12 points of expertise abilities in the Artiste skill tree, then you can choose to purchase Holography. Holography grants the command to create one hologram and an icon will be placed on your toolbar.

Holographic Mastery: Once you have 16 points in the Artiste skill tree and one point of Holography expertise, you can spend up to two additional expertise points for two additional performers. You will spend one point for each additional performer.

Once holography expertise is purchased, you are ready to put your back-up performers to work! It's a quick and easy to set up. Here's how:

Step 1 - Setting the Stage

  • Start setting up your act by choosing the costume you would like your holograms to wear and the prop or instrument you want them to use in the act.
  • Next, get into position and face the audience. When you create a hologram it will be facing the same direction your character is facing.
  • Then, all you have to do is press the icon on your toolbar and your holographic back-up performer will appear!

Step 2: Costumes, dance props and instruments

  • Holograms are an identical copy of the character that created them including whatever the original character was wearing and carrying at the moment of creation. This allows you to create holograms with different outfits, props and instruments.
  • You're headlining the show so the hologram will be performing the same acts as you are. If you're putting on a dance routine, your hologram will be dancing the same steps and can use dance props. If you are playing music, your hologram can use instruments.
  • Once your first hologram has appeared, you are ready to pick the costume and gear for either yourself or your next hologram.

Step 3: Time for the show!

  • Your holograms will do whatever you do so simply start singing or dancing to begin the show!
  • You can perform a flourish by yourself using the flourish command or toolbar button.
  • You can have your holographic back-up performers perform the same flourish with you by using the /bandflourish command.
  • If you switch your act from music to dance or visa-versa, the holograms will stop their performance.
  • When your performance is complete, the toolbar icon Holographic Recall will turn off your holograms.

  • Practice combining different flourishes for each of the songs and dances. They can be combined to create stunning performances. There are tips below that explain how to get started.
  • Use entertainer effects like /floorshow or /FireJet to add a strong visual flare to your performance. You can find all your available effects in your Command Browser.
  • Engineers can build droids that have special entertainer modules. You can find them on vendors or seek out a trader to build a customized droid for you.
  • The entertainer modules can playback preset song flourishes or provide special effects. There are six effects to choose from: Avians, Confetti, Dancing Jawas, Electric Fog, Foam and Mind Bloom.
  • Hologram performers can play all instruments except those placed on the floor.
  • Entertainers also have image design abilities such as changing hair style, hair color, skin tone, make-up, body size, and weight.

Cantinas

  • Cantinas can be found throughout Star Wars Galaxies. To find them, just open your planetary map and click on "Cantinas" in the right column.

Theaters

  • Theaters can also be found on many planets in major cities and player cities. Theaters are great places to put on stage shows, performances, pageants and all sorts of different acts.

Field Tours

  • With entertainer moduled camps, you can take your show on the road. You can set up a camp near PvP zones and many other places, so entertaining and buffing services are close by.

Here are some in-game commands that you can use to create impressive performances. Just type them into your spatial chat window or create macro buttons.

/bandleader Sets the leader of a band. Band members must all be in the same group.

/bandflo on By using this command, entertainers in a group will perform the same flourishes as the band leader when the leader uses the /bandflourish command.

/bandflo off Use this command to turn off band flourish synchronizing for your character while in a group.

/bandflourish
or /bandflo

When this command is used, entertainers in a group will perform the same flourish as the band leader if they have set the /bandflo on command.

To have one instrument play one flourish and have the rest of the band play a different flourish, use this command:

/bandflo 4 <player name>;/bandflo 8;

/changeBandMusic
or /changeb

Any player in a group can change the song being played by a band with this command.

/changeDance This will change the dance a character is performing. You can either type the name of the dance (ex. /changeDance Freestyle 2) or you can select a new dance from a pop-up window.

/changeMusic Using this command will change the music that a character is playing (ex. /changeMusic Funk). You can either include the name of the song or select a new song from a pop-up window.

/disband When you are ready to disband from a group, use this command. If a band leader uses the command, the entire group will be disbanded.

/flourish
or /flo

While performing, you can use this command with the numbers 1-8 to perform a corresponding flourish.

For example: /flo 8

/startband
or /startb
This command will start a band's performance.

/pause <# of seconds>

This is a handy that will put pauses in your performances. This allows you to synchronize your flourishes with the music.

Ex. /flo 4/pause 10;/flo 8 will perform flourish 4, wait 10 seconds then perform flourish 8.

/pauseMusic <# of seconds>

To pause an instrument during a flourish, use this command and include the number of seconds you want to pause the music.

Ex. /pauseMusic 15

/startdance Use this command or the toolbar button to start dancing.

/startmusic Use this command or the toolbar button to start playing an instrument.

/stopband This will stop a band from playing.

/stopdance This will stop a dancer from dancing.

/stopmusic This will end a musician's song. If the musician is in a band, the music being played by the rest of the band will continue uninterrupted.

Remember to always /tip your performer!
