Friday Feature: Star Wars Sight Seeing

Let Star Wars Galaxies be your tour guide! In honor of the 4th anniversary of Star Wars Galaxies and the 30th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, get ready to set out on a tour of the famous landmarks in the universe of Star Wars. Gather your friends to take a trip down memory lane and earn some sightseeing badges along the way.

Escape Pod

"What a desolate place this is." C-3PO

Embark on your outing in the same place that C-3PO and R2D2 started their own long journey, at the crashed escape pod buried in the dunes of the Tatooine desert.

Your tour begins as you arrive in Bestine. Hop on your mount or vehicle and cross the vast desert sands to the southwest. As the sands smooth, you will see a lone escape pod nestled in the dune (-3933 -4423). The winds have long erased the tracks of the two legendary droids, but you can still follow in their footsteps.

Ancient Krayt Dragon Skeleton

"Wait, what's that? A transport! I'm saved!" C-3PO

Like C-3PO, walk west from the escape pod and you will quickly find yourself engulfed by the sandy desert. Just a short distance away from the pod, you will encounter the remains of another victim of the Tatooine dune sea, an ancient Krayt Dragon.

It was here that Threepio first caught a glimpse of a would-be savior far off in the distance. The massive sandcrawler brought the droids to our next destination, the Lars Homestead.

Lars Homestead

"Luke's just not a farmer, Owen. He has too much of his father in him." Beru Lars

The two droids end up at the Lars Homestead, childhood home of Luke Skywalker and your next stop on the sightseeing tour. The homestead can be found in the southwest of Bestine and west of Anchorhead (-2581 -5515).

The Lars family was slain by the Imperial stormtroopers in pursuit of the droids and their scorched home is currently vacant. You can pause here to remember both Owen and Beru Lars, as well as visit the grave marker of Shmi Skywalker.

Watch the binary sunset as night falls and prepare for the next leg of your journey.

Tosche Station

"But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters..." Luke Skywalker

Travel east to Anchorhead from the Lars Homestead. This small station was mentioned but not seen in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. If you want to waste time with your friends before your next stop on the tour, drop by this station, one of Luke's favorite hangout spots (-130 -5316).

Ben Kenobi's Old Home

"You must do what you feel is right, of course." Ben Kenobi

Set out in the vast Tatooine desert again to reach the next destination, the old home of Ben Kenobi. Head west from Anchorhead until you reach this small house on the top of a sandy hill (-4502 -2237).

Be careful in this area - the house has been deserted and a number of Tusken raiders have taken up residence nearby. Although you can't enter the Jedi Master's home, you can peek through the open door to see where Luke Skywalker first learned about the Force.

Mos Eisley Cantina

"Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." Ben Kenobi

Follow Ben Kenobi's path as your journey takes you to the last stop on Tatooine, the Mos Eisley cantina.

If you wish to end your tour here, there is no better place on Tatooine for relaxation, entertainment, and socializing. Listen to the familiar tunes of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes and order a drink from the bartender Wuher. Wuher will also share the latest gossip if you're curious about what's going on in the galaxy. As you look around the cantina, you might see some familiar faces.

Truly adventurous sightseers should ask the entertainers in the cantina for some buffs before heading out to the final destination on the tour Yavin 4. (Don't forget to tip!)

The Great Massassi Temple

"Man your ships! And may the Force be with you." General Jan Dodonna

Once you arrive at the Mining Outpost on Yavin 4, you will have a bit of a trek ahead of you. Make your way through the dense jungle of the moon until you arrive at the Great Massassi Temple (-3100 -3030).

This temple, now abandoned by the Rebellion, served as the Rebel base during the Battle of Yavin. Under the command of General Jan Dodonna, the temple gave shelter to the Rebels and their starfighters. The Empire has since taken over the base.

If you find yourself longing to meet some of the participants of that great battle, you can head to the far northeast to the temple of Exar Kun (5015, 5537). You can find General Dodonna and Luke Skywalker outside the temple. If you support the Rebel Alliance, these heroes will request your aid.

We wish you luck as you take a tour of the famous places from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope! If you find yourself lost in the desert of Tatooine or in the jungle of Yavin 4, don't forget to take a look at your planetary map. Choose to view "Points of Interest" and these noteworthy landmarks will be indicated on the map.
