"We have powerful friends. You're going to regret this." - Princess Leia Organa, Return of the Jedi
If you're a new or returning player to Star Wars Galaxies, you will find that you need some allies at your side during your escapades in the galaxy. You can find groups, form player associations, and make friends to get the most out of your playing experience!
Finding a Group
From time to time you may come across missions or creatures that you can't take on all by yourself. Remember, if you see an elite or boss monster, you're going to need some help to defeat that foe!
Some players prefer to search in person at local starports and cantinas for potential team-ups. Mid-level players level 40-50 might try meeting other players in Coronet on Corellia. Mos Eisley contains some of the most colorful residents of Tatooine and remains a popular meeting spot for adventurers of all levels. Players often barter, duel, and form groups outside the starport.
You can use the /lfg command to let other players know that you're currently looking for a group. To search for other players in the vicinity who are looking to team up, open the Community window and choose the Search tab. Select Looking for Group and click Search. Nearby players ready to form a group will display at the bottom of the window.
If you're looking to take on some Imperials or Rebels, travel to Restuss on Rori for some Player vs. Player action. Make your mark in the Galactic Civil War to earn points and form friendships with other players of your faction.
In Chapter 7, the Township of Aurilia will serve as a meeting ground for high level players looking to take on the most fearsome enemies in the galaxy. High level players will be able to travel to the township from any starport in the galaxy. Thrill seekers looking for profit will find allies in Aurilia, and from there they can head off together to brave the heroic encounters.
If you find yourself regularly grouping with friends you've made as you travel across the galaxy, you and your partners can create a player association to form a more permanent bond.
Forming and Managing Player Associations
Player associations, commonly referred to as guilds, create an instant connection between you and many like-minded adventurers. With a player association you can quickly form groups with trusted friends, gather a large number of powerful allies for a raid or role-playing adventure, and chat with all of your guildmates simultaneously.
A player association can hold 5 to 500 members; if a guild falls to less than five members, it will be automatically disbanded. You can choose to join an existing guild or become the leader of an association of your own.
The leader or officer of an established player association will send you an invitation to join the guild. Once you accept, your new guild abbreviation is displayed over the head of your character, and you can now use guild chat. Use the /guild command to begin speaking with your new guildmates.
If you are looking to create a player association of your own, you can begin by finding a Structures Trader. At level 82, a Structures Trader gains the ability to craft a Player Association Galactic Registry. Use the radial menu on the Registry in your inventory and choose Create Guild. Player association names must be between 1 and 25 characters.
The Player Association Data-Screen appears in the guild leader's inventory once the association has been created. This No Trade screen can be placed in the player association leader's structure.
When examined, it will give information about your player association. You can also use a data cartridge to customize the data-screens appearance according to your leanings in the Galactic Civil War.
The Remote Player Association Access in the guild leader's datapad can be used to manage the guild and its members. Guild members can also use this device to view information about the player association and its members.
To invite a player into your association, choose Sponsor for Membership from the Member Management radial menu. Enter the name of the person to be sponsored for membership. He or she must be online but can be in a distant location. You can also use the /guildsponsor command to invite a new recruit.
The Remote Player Association Access Device also displays a list of all members of the guild with the Guild Members option.
In the Guild Members window, the guild leader can click on a member's name and choose OK to edit the member's information. You can set his or her title, change permissions, remove them from the guild, and more.
The Member Management radial menu also allows you to transfer leadership of your player association to another player. To transfer leadership, you must be within 20 meters of each other.
If you are a member of a guild, you can use the /guildshowalpha command to see an alphabetical list of all players in the association. Other useful commands include:
/guildshowname - Search through guild member names
/guildinfo - See the player association details
/guildremove - Leave the player association
Take a look in the Player Association forum on the Star Wars Galaxies message board for more guides, tips, and FAQs about running a guild.
Meeting Other Players
The official forums are also a fantastic way to meet other players on your server and in the game! The galaxy-specific forums are the perfect place for guild leaders and potential guild members to meet up. If you're looking to join a player association and don't know where to start, check out your galaxy's forum for any guilds that are currently recruiting. Use the Game Play Discussion forum to talk about all the current happenings with the game, and chat with other players of your profession in the Galactic Career Paths forums.
Playing the game and looking to meet someone new? Not only can you find groups at the starports and cantinas, these areas are a great place to make new acquaintances as well. Traders and entertainers are also likely to meet new friends and establish business contacts in these highly populated areas.
You can also use the Community window in game to set up some personal information about yourself. Other players can browse and search in this window to find others with similar tastes, interests, and hobbies. Take a look at this guide for more details about using this matchmaking feature including an explanation of the mysterious "Blood Type" category!
Star Wars Galaxies is a great place to make friends and share your adventures with others who love to live in the Star Wars universe. See you in game!
