Sand People, also known as Tusken Raiders, are fearsome nomads that prowl the desert sands of Tatooine. Who are these savage and mysterious warriors? You and your allies will face the fierce Sand People in the heroic encounters of Chapter 7. Learn more about the enemy you'll be up against.
Sand People
Tusken Raiders roam the sands of the desert and hide in the rocky canyons of the Jundland Wastes. These aggressive wanderers are known for scavenging and stealing from the settlers scattered across the planet. They travel in bands on the back of banthas, riding in single file to conceal their numbers.
Sand People endure in the desert by shielding themselves from the wrath of the binary suns and the deadly heat. Heavy, dusty bandages and cloth protect their faces, and metallic eye protection lenses allow them to see in even in fierce sandstorms. A breath filter over the nose and mouth also give some protection from sand particles. A moisture trap is attached to the filter to provide some necessary hydration in the scorched air.
Sand People are covered in thick robes, gloves, and boots from head to toe, and often carry their weapon of choice: gaderffii. Gaderffii, also known as gaffi sticks, are crafted with metal scavenged from the wreckage of crashed ships.
These sturdy weapons brandish a spearing blade at one tip, with sharp axe blades able to cleave its target. At the other end of the stick, a weighted club has the potential to bruise and batter with one powerful swing. Tusken Raiders often bellow while flaunting the gaffi stick to indicate dominance and aggression. They also use the blasters stolen from their deceased owners to strike from a far range.
Tusken Society
The Tusken Raiders are shrouded in mystery. Little is known about their society, but there is a hierarchy in their clans. Sand People designate some of their strongest warriors as War Masters, Blood Champions, Warlords, and Death Hunters. Very few settlers who have encountered these fierce savages have survived.
There are rumors of a Tusken King ruling over this primitive society, although no one has seen him with their own eyes and lived to tell the tale. It is said that the Tusken King, proudest and strongest of all the Sand People, leads his people not only in their attacks but in their clan rituals. These rituals might involve the sacrifice of animals, captives, or even condemned clan members.
Not much is known about their day-to-day life, but all inhabitants of Tatooine know to avoid an encounter with the Sand People at all cost.
Tusken Raiders
The Sand People earned the name "Tusken Raiders" after attacking a fort inhabited by human settlers on Tatooine. Settlers had unknowingly constructed their commune on land that the Sand People held sacred. The nomadic savages gathered their forces and nearly destroyed Fort Tusken in an effort to remove the invaders. A number of these fighters still lurk in the caves below the deserted fort.
The bloodthirsty raid is still spoken of today as one of the most brutal attacks in the history of the planet. The Sand People have not gathered and attacked a settlement in the years since the attack on Fort Tusken , but no one is truly safe while they roam the dunes of Tatooine
