the wierdest thing

okies :D can ofcourse only happen to me, so here goes.

sometimes (as in not always) when i put a USB Storage Device in the front USB port of my computer, my video card will stop giving signal, monitor will go black (no signal). Reboot and its all fine.

first i thought it was a coincidance but its happen a couple of times not with diffrent USB sticks.

idea's ?

Hmmmm now that is a strange one.
What size PSU do you have? May be a power issue, though having said that it doesn't really sound like it is as most of the time mine shut themselves down if there's a sudden drain on the PSU.
Does it do it with other USB devices or just memory sticks?
Does it happen when they are plugged into the USB sockets at the back?
You've got me grasping at straws here. I've tried to replicate the problem with a spare rig and power is all that I'm left with other than a dodgy USB port, which I can't replicate.

My PC sometimes spotaneously reoots itself when the RAM glitches - I have to wait a bit, remove the memory and reseat it before it'll recognise it again! But yours isn't rebooting on its own, just stopping the video signal? That's an odd one.

So, my only thoughts are - USB driver's not installing correctly or is corrupted, video card driver might need an update, motherboard/BIOS drivers might need an update, USB and video card are trying to use the same IRQ, video card's got PMT, motherboard thinks you're bored and wants to liven your life up a bit...

If it's just happening with the front USB ports it may be an issue with the case ports themselves or the motherboard connector for those ports.

does it happen with any other USB devices? Try plugging in other devices in those ports, and maybe even just a cable.

Very odd... seems like the Mem sticks are drawing more power from the ports than a standard USB device. Or there's an issue with that model stick in general.

Have you checked the manufacturer's site? There may be a known issue with the memory sticks. Have a look on their forums. That's assuming they are the same make/model.
That's all I have without going back to the power.

i think i know what it is :D

Static electricity  doing the same as always only in slowmotion (i was tired) i noticed the screen going black with out the usb stick even being in the port it was just touching the metal from the port.

not totally confimed it but would explain it  and  kinda the only thing that would mess something up with out the usb actually being attached.

are the USB storage devices externally powered? If so it might be a bad grounding or something equal
