Well, the time has come for me to attempt to get my pilot's licence - I need to do the 2 rebel master missions (I believe the 1st one is to kill 30 imps, the 2nd is to take on a corvette), and am requesting lots of help
The plan is to do it next Sunday (7th August) about 2pm UK time. Anyone who's got a T4 ship (or anyone who's got a T1-3 ship and has a LOT of confidence in their flying!) is welcome to come along and join the party!! The more help, the merrier, and hopefully we can waltz through the missions in double-quick time, and be home in time for tea!
should be able to help ill just have to shoot a little at all the imps as im a freelancer but hey ill come ish DEATH TO IMPSSSSS who said that audie was that you???
Well, that didn't work Cheers to all who came along to help though!
Ah well, if at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer.... no, wait,
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up parachuting.... no...
If at first you don't succeed, sulk and pout and cry... getting closer....
Anyways, enough of my rambling - same time next week for another crack at the 'vette: Sunday 14th August, 2pm UK time. Come one, come all, bring your torps and missiles, and this time, we'll take it down!
I'll be off in space this week trying out some tactics to take down gunboats, so hopefully we'll have some success there.
Also, anyone with the mission needs to do some damage to at least one component on the thing to succeed.
I think that strafing runs on guns would be a way to do this, and hopefully it'll also help strip some defences.
However, what I know so far is that if you take out gun 5, then you're safe approaching from below and/or behind vette, so you could just wait and take some shots at the engines when they are live.
That does all depend on the gunboats being toast as well tho...
Vette spawns every 2hrs and is only about for around 45 mins it seems.
You don't need to take out every gun to finish it either.
I'll see how the gunboat hunting goes, but I think that alternating strafing runs from below and behind on them by everyone in group should help finish them off pretty quickly. Missiles seem to take too long to acquire target, so a quick strafe, roll and boost away should help if we all follow in after each other, or overload it with targets.
Remember to come in from below and behind corvette as well, to make use of the blind spot created by destruction of gun 5.
We just need a plan and some organisation...
Onward and upward!

is it only me whose torps werent locking or fiiring? i tired today on tier 3 ships and still the didnt lock and yes i did have them loaded before anyone says
I did a strafe on the vette, and my concussion missiles all locked on fine and hit the gun component I was aiming for. Maybe you need a certain level of torp/missiles (mine are Mark III btw)
Was it just my old eyes playing tricks on me, or am I right in thinking that the moment we took out a gunboat, another hypered in to take its place??
One question - when you have IFF on, presumably if you then shoot at a target, he'll fire back - will that completely negate the effect, and cause everyone to see you as a target again, or do the rest of 'em wait till the IFF turns off?
I'll be around tonight, so I'll do some tests... look out for the large pieces of wreckage floating around the place - it'll be me
Use the weapon group screen (under 'g' button) to make sure your torps are in a separate weapon group of their own.
Also, Ish and myself had some success with the gunboats last night. I'll be up there again before the weekend as well to see about honing tactics, then I'll post a mission plan for everyone to read before we hit the 'vette.
Biggest thing is that we're organised and we all know what we're doing. It took about 5-10mins for 2 of us to take out a gunboat once we got sorted, and now my torps work it should be even faster.
