"Star Wars Galaxies Galactic Civil War" Forum Machinima Challenge

 

The Challenge:

In light of the ongoing and escalating Galactic Civil War, the Star Wars Galaxies team is hosting the "Star Wars Galaxies Galactic Civil War" Forum Machinima Challenge. Star Wars Galaxies community members will have this opportunity to show us the most dramatic moments in the war and present their side of the conflict in Star Wars Galaxies!

Using in-game video imagery, community members should depict a visual representation that shows dramatic moments in, or highlights of their sides' involvement in, the Galactic Civil War.

Duration: E-mail submissions for this Forum Challenge will be accepted between Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. PDT and Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. PDT (U.S. Pacific Time). Any submissions e-mailed after June 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. PDT will not be considered.

Winners will be announced at Fan Faire on or around Friday, July 8, 2011.

Rules: Before e-mailing your submission, please carefully review the Official Forum Machinima Challenge Rules and the notes below:

1. Do not submit video that includes any intellectual property, images or other content that belongs to any person or any entity other than you, SOE and its licensors. This means that other than the in-game video imagery and the music and sounds provided below, the video submission should contain your original ideas and content only. Any submissions that SOE feels, at its sole discretion, includes content not allowed hereunder will not be considered and will be disqualified.

2. Character names and NPC names should be turned off unless they fit well within the video submission.

3. All UI elements must also be turned off, including target rings, radials, reticular icons, object names, and other elements that may lessen the quality of the video submission.

4. You are only permitted to submit two videos submissions per individual.

5. You may include a voice-over or narration, provided that you use your voice and no one else's, and provided that you are not a member of a talent guild or union such that fees/dues would be owed to you and/or the guild or union related to such voice-over.

6. You may include music and sound as part of your video submission, provided that you only use music and sound from the approved list below.Video submissions may include any combination of the music and sound files below, but do not mix them with music or songs not found on the list.

Approved List of Music and Sounds:

7. Your video submission must be an externally-hosted Windows Media (.wmv), QuickTime (.mov) or AVI (.avi) format video, under 100 MB, four (4) minutes in length or less.Video submissions that require non-generic plug-in applications will not be opened or considered for entry, and will be disqualified. If the video submission cannot be easily viewed without needing non-generic plug-ins, it may be rejected, at SOE's discretion. The video submissions must be hosted in a location in which they can be easily viewed and downloaded by SOE.

8. If your e-mail and video submission do not conform to the above requirements and those requirements set forth in the Official Forum Challenge Rules, your submission may be disqualified or you may be asked to resubmit your submission.

9. SOE reserves the right to reject any and all video submissions at its sole discretion.

How to Enter:To be considered for this Forum Challenge, send an e-mail to SOEContests@soe.sony.com no later than Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. PDT that includes the information below in the body of the e-mail. Any e-mails that do not contain all of the following information will not be considered and will be disqualified:

  • Subject of Email: Star Wars Galaxies "Star Wars Galaxies Galactic Civil War" Forum Challenge
  • Real Name: (first and last)
  • Forum Community Handle: (if applicable)
  • E-mail Address:
  • In-Game Character Name and Server:
  • Submission Title: (title of your video submission)
  • Description: One 200-word or less story or description of your video. This description may be used by SOE to highlight the video in a website article.
  • List of Music and Sounds Used: A text-based list of the music and sound files that you used in the video. Include this list even if you have listed the files in the video.
  • Link: A hyperlink to where the video submission file is hosted. All files externally hosted must be made available for SOE for download.

The Selection Process: When reviewing the video submissions to determine the winner(s), a panel of judges consisting of SOE's Community Team will use a 0-100 point scale, with 0-30 points for originality/creativity, , 0-30 points for thematic content consistent with the dramatic moments occurring during the Galactic Civil War in Star Wars Galaxies,0-20 points for audio and use of music tracks provided and 0-20 points for highlighting what is unique and compelling about the world of Star Wars Galaxies.

Awards:

·First Place: The top five entries, as determined by SOE, will each receive one Galactic Cinematographer in-game badge and a SOE Universal Game Time Card.

·Honorable Mentions: Other video submissions may be selected as honorable mentions, and as such, will receive recognition on the Star Wars Galaxies website, forums, Facebook page, and other sources of news as SOE desires.

Feedback: Feel free to offer your feedback on the submissions of others. We enjoy reading the comments on entries for these challenges just as much as the entries themselves! Just remember to be constructive.
