Friday Feature - Tech spech carbines

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

Han Solo, "Star Wars: A New Hope "

Carbine weapons are assault rifles with a medium range and are capable of rapid fire for heavy combat. More powerful than pistols and capable of a faster fire rate than rifles, these weapons can be incredibly effective in the right hands. Bounty hunters, medics and spies can lay down suppressing fire, provide cover fire, and launch attacks by themselves or for their group mates. Combined with carbine expertise abilities these weapons become even more effective.

Let these technical specs be your guide to find out if carbine weapons are a good choice for your character.

Carbine Basics

Be sure to take a moment and examine the weapons you're interested in using. You can find out all the details about a weapon by clicking on it in your inventory and "examining" it with the radial menu, or by looking at the details of the item on the bazaar.

Once you have looked over the weapon details, it helps if you take a moment to compare it with the expertise abilities your character has, and the abilities you're considering purchasing in the future through the Profession Expertise System. Things you will want to consider are the amount of damage, damage type, special weapon effects and related expertise abilities.

Here are some additional tips on understanding weapon details in the examine window:

Skill Mods: Here you can find out any additional skill modifiers the weapon may have.

Combat Level Required: This item displays the level that your character must be to use the weapon.

Required Profession: If there are any profession restrictions, they will be listed here. Species restrictions, if any, are listed here as well.

Damage:In this category, you can find all the details about the weapon's damage capabilities, including the damage type, category, base DPS, elemental damage, etc.

Other Stats: Here you can find the weapon's range, special effects and other information.

Weapon Categories

Carbines can be found throughout the galaxy in different ways. There are four basic categories: crafted weapons, looted weapons, quest rewards and Galactic Civil War weapons.

  • Crafted Weapons: Crafted weapons are hand made or manufactured by munitions experts. You can purchase them throughout the galaxy by visiting the bazaar. Some are for sale on the open market, but to find the really excellent hardware click the tab that says "vendor search." You can search vendors throughout the galaxy and find shops with a wide range of available goods, as long as you are willing to travel to buy them.

Each type of crafted weapon varies based on the quality of the item and any modifiers that might be built into the weapon by the crafter. Also, they currently have one socket for item upgrades created through the
reverse engineering system.

  • Looted Weapons: There are two types of looted weapons. Basic looted weapons have been recovered from your enemies after combat and can be found throughout the galaxy. Special looted weapons are recovered from specific
enemies. These are mostly found on Kashyyyk and Mustafar.
  • Quest Weapons: Quest weapons are rewarded for
    completing a specific quest.
  • Galactic Civil War Weapons: Galactic Civil War weapons can be purchased from faction recruiters based on points you have scored in the war. If you've scored enough points, you can visit a faction recruiter and there will be a new dialogue box available so you can purchase these new
    weapons.

Additional Intel

Here are some tips on understanding the carbine tech specs:

  • The damage ranges listed above are base damages ranges. The final damage range for crafted weapons is affected by the quality of the weapon, the trader's level when they created it, the weapon’s skill modifiers and any additional components used to craft the weapon.
  • The Min DMG Range describes the minimum possible range of base damage the weapon is capable of.
  • The Max DMG Range describes the maximum possible range of base damage the weapon is capable of.
  • Standard looted carbine damages are not represented above. You can find that information in the table below.

Looted Weapons

On your adventures around the galaxy, you can loot weapons from your defeated enemies. As part of our carbine specs, here are the potential damage ranges for basic looted weapons. When you recover a carbine, the possible damage it can inflict will fall between the Min DMG range and Max DMG range listed below by combat level.

Additional Intel

Here are some tips on understanding basic looted weapons:

  • These carbines all have a range of up to 50 meters and a speed of 0.6.
  • You can find any profession, level or species restrictions by examining the weapon.

Additional Intel: All Carbines

  • When you choose your carbine, you will want to consider what attributes your character has, your character’s profession expertise, and all of the skill modifiers affecting your character (wearables, items, jewelry, etc).
  • If you want to understand Elemental Combat better, click to read the feature, "Elemental Combat ."
