SWGEmu (Star Wars Galaxies Emulator)

Hey guys, I was a member from a long time ago, a Bothan Spy named Vestin Igitifo. I recently discovered this SWGEmu project, a bid to re-create the Pre-CU and NGE Star Wars Galaxies. I've fallen in love with it, and I've only had it installed for a few days. If anyone is interested in getting back on SWG through this free to play project, my name in SWGEmu is Chayur Ovik. Admittedly, they're still working out all the kinks, but they're also updating it pretty often with new features from their test center, Nova. Their main server (and only other server) is Basilisk, with a capacity of 3000. Currently, about 2000+ players log on each day at a time. Let's get back into a classic!

A note. I've been hearing of lag issues. Aside from the occasional rubber-banding, (which typically does not interfere with combat) there is very little lag at all.

Hello Vestin. Nice to see a KS veteran around here.

I've checked the Emu last year, and it was ok, but not my thing really. Having played SWG after the CU and NGE, I didn't really get into it.

Another emulator, the NGEproject, looks more promising to me. But, on the other hand, there is only one test server for stress testing atm. Since they started right at the announcment of the shutdown, they are quite behind of SWGemu,

I totally agree with Audie.

SWG was a great game in its time, but it was well past its prime prior to being shut down.

It was basically an 11-12 year old game (8 years live + 3-4 years in dev)... Might as well bring out Pac-Man online while they're at it. biggrin

Haha actually been playing this the last few day's it's was fun in a sentimental bring back memories way but it being pre-cu is far removed from what it ultimately became

A couple of weeks ago someone told me about another SWG Emulator that is a working version of the NGE with JTL (99% of the full game before shutdown - minus the Card Game) called SWG Legends. It also has a mod that comes with it that enhances all the textures & music called the ILM Mod which makes the game MUCH better than it was in 2011. Been trying it out the last couple of days and thought I'd pass it on to anyone interested in trying it out.

https://swglegends.com/

Installing the ILM Mod - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWlQWyZ5o5Y

They allow up to 5 characters per account and, from what I was told, you can have up to 4 logged in at once.

So far it's been a good experience. Have Aevu to cl 90 Entertainer already, but just got to Jabba's Palace on Menis for the Legacy Quest chain... I forgot how much I loved avoiding that quest.

They do make it easy for new players/characters by giving everyone the Yacht, IT Pickup ship, Flash Speeder (type /flashspeeder after you land in Eisley to get the deed granted in inventory) and some more goodies when you get past the tutorial and land in Eisley.

Also seems they do have the Card Game Items in game but have made them rewards from doing ingame missions & quests or thru vet rewards.

But so far it does appear to be a fully working version of the game as we played it before the shutdown in 2011 - minus the Card Game.

*WARNING* 1 of the new character rewards will be a (One per account/Lifetime) Token to boost a character to cl90 instantly. Do NOT collect it on a character that you don't intend to use it on as it is NO TRADE.
