Medics in Star Wars Galaxies can develop their expertise in ways that will significantly distinguish themselves from other medics. You might be interested in supporting a group in combat situations out in the field, or in using your medic training to run a profitable enterprise buffing other players as a service. If you prefer player-versus-player combat, you can even allocate your medic expertise in ways that will make your medic a ruthless opponent who knows how to turn an enemy's body against themselves.
As we explore medic expertise, think about how you would like to develop your character and let's look at the different skills you can choose as you progress.
Field Survival
Field Survival expertise has many interesting choices. This expertise tree has some very important skill lines that you will want to keep in mind when developing your character. Some of the questions you'll want to ask yourself include:
* Whether or not you want to buff other player's character attributes. * Choosing between ranged or melee combat. * Whether or not you want to focus on using carbine weapons. * The level of kinetic and energy armor bonuses you will need.
Martial Training: Boosting your character attributes with expertise abilities is an important step in building an effective offensive character. With Martial Training, you can increase your character's strength attribute which will increase the amount of damage you can do with all of your offensive melee attacks.
Enhance Strength: This is a very helpful buff that medics can apply in the field to enhance the strength of any allowable target. If you train 4 points of Martial Training, you can unlock this ability to buff other players.
Footwork: Improve your overall defense capabilities by increasing your agility attribute.
Since Footwork expertise doesn't have any prerequisites and your defensive abilities are built on the agility attribute, this is a key skill to consider.
Enhance Agility: If you purchase 4 Footwork expertise points, you gain access to this buffing ability. With Enhance Agility you can increase your target's agility attribute, improving their base defensive capabilities for a short while.
Marksman Training: If you prefer ranged combat, then you might consider this expertise skill. Marksman Training increases your precision attribute, which improves the effectiveness of all your ranged attacks.
Enhance Precision: Like other enhancement abilities in Field Survival, you can unlock an ability to buff other player's character attributes. Just purchase 4 points in Marksman Training along with Enhance Precision and you'll be able to increase your target's precision for the duration of the buff, which will improve the effectiveness of all their ranged attacks.
Carbine Accuracy: If you plan on improving your ranged combat abilities as part of your Field Survival training, you might decide to make carbines your weapon of choice. If you do, then Carbine Accuracy will increase the amount of damage you can do whenever you use carbine weapons.
Deuterium Rounds: If you have already trained 8 points in any Field Survival abilities and also 4 points of Carbine Accuracy expertise, you gain access to Deuterium Rounds. This expertise ability gives a medic access to special ammunition that gives you a chance to set your opponent on fire!
For it to work successfully though, you'll have to use it with a carbine weapon.
Lethal Aim: With 12 points in Field Survival training, medics can choose this skill to help improve their combat abilities. Lethal Aim expertise will increase your chance to score critical hits against humanoid targets. If you see "Critical Hit" fly text in combat, it means your hit received an extra damage bonus.
Burst: By purchasing 16 points in any Field Survival ability and 3 points of Lethal Aim expertise, you can open up this carbine expertise skill. If you train Burst, you can use a carbine weapon to unleash a wild spray of gunfire that causes your opponents to suffer a slightly decreased chance against getting critical hits against you in combat and also increases their chances of getting only a glancing blow.
A Glancing Blow dramatically reduces the amount of damage done by an attack. When you see the combat fly text "Glancing Blow" it means the attack didn't do very much damage.
Unarmed Accuracy: If you prefer melee combat, then you might want to consider this expertise ability. Unarmed Accuracy training will increase the amount of damage you can do with your melee attacks either unarmed or while using knucklers.
Poison Knuckle: You can improve your unarmed melee combat damage with this Damage-over-time (DoT) attack. Poison Knuckle expertise has a percentage chance to hit your opponent with a poison attack. To unlock this skill, you will need to train 8 points of Field Survival skills and 4 points in Unarmed Accuracy.
Lethal Strikes: Medics can choose to use this expertise ability to build up melee combat skills. If you have 12 points in any other Field Survival skills, Lethal Strikes expertise will increase your chance to score critical strikes on your opponents either unarmed or while using knucklers.
Flurry: To build on your melee combat expertise, you might choose to train this skill. With Flurry, you gain the ability to deliver a combination melee attack that will reduce your opponent's combat effectiveness (unarmed or using knucklers).
If you are interested in unlocking this ability, you will have to train 16 points of Field Survival skills and 2 points in Lethal Strikes.
Subtlety: In combat situations, any time a medic heals an ally it increases the amount of "hate" that an enemy NPC or creature has against them. At some point during combat, this will cause the NPCs and creatures to turn on the medic and attack.
To offset this, you can purchase the expertise ability Subtlety. It has a prerequisite of only 4 points in Field Survival skills making it a very appealing ability to train.
Evasion: You can improve your ability to reduce NPC and creature hate with this aggro dump skill. Evasion expertise allows you to attempt to elude all foes that are currently angry with you and also end combat. The important thing to take note of with this ability is that Evasion will give you a defensive bonus for a short period of time even if you are not successful in reducing your enemy's hate.
To purchase this ability you will have to have 12 points in Field Survival and 3 points of Subtlety expertise.
Kinetic Armor: This defensive expertise will improve your protection against all incoming kinetic attacks. You only need 4 points trained in Field Survival to take this important combat ability.
Enhance Block: If you have 16 points in Field Survival and 4 points of Kinetic Armor, you can unlock this player buff that improves their melee abilities. With Enhance Block, all melee attacks made against the player you buffed have an increased chance to be a glancing blow.
Energy Armor: Improve your ability to defend against all incoming energy attacks with this expertise. Energy Armor can be unlocked with only 4 points in Field Survival skills and it's an economical way to improve your defensive abilities.
Enhance Dodge: As a medic you can also help your team mates with this buff ability. Enhance Dodge is a buff you can apply to a target. When this buff is active on another player, all incoming ranged attacks have an increased chance to be a glancing blow.
To train this ability, you will first have to have 16 points in Field Survival and 4 points in Energy Armor.
Medic Specialization
This expertise tree defines the profession's medical training possibilities. As you build your medic expertise, the key choice here is whether or not you will use your skills to heal or to hurt. Some character development considerations to keep in mind when looking over these skill lines include:
• Group support and group healing abilities.
• PvP and soloist combat abilities.
• More Player buffing and de-buffing choices.
Bacta Concentration: This beginning level expertise is a great way to improve the amount of damage you can heal with Bacta Infusion.
Drag Corpse: If you train 4 points of Medic Specialization and 4 points of Bacta Concentration, you will unlock a handy ability. Drag Corpse allows you to drag all of your group mate's corpses within range of your location.
Bacta Potency: This expertise is another great way to improve the potency of your medic's healing abilities. Bacta Potency has no prerequisite and boosts your ability to heal your team mates.
Cure Affliction: This is a handy skill no medic should overlook. Cure Affliction lets you cure damage over time (DoT) effects such as bleeding, poison, disease and fire on either yourself or a friendly player.
To purchase this ability, you'll have to have 4 Medic Specialization points and 4 points trained in Bacta Potency.
Hasty Resuscitation: If you want to improve your medic's revive and area-revive skills (basic medic profession abilities), then you might consider this expertise. Hasty Resuscitation decreases the cool-down timer on all revive and area-revive abilities so you can activate them more often. Since the prerequisite is only 8 points of Medic Specialization expertise, it can be an economical way to boost your revive abilities.
Blood Cleansers: Once you train Hasty Resuscitation, you can develop your field support skills even more. If you have 12 points of Medic Specialization skills and 3 points of Hasty Resuscitation, you can purchase Blood Cleansers.
With this expertise ability, you can remove the Weakness penalty caused by incapacitation from either yourself or a target player.
Bacta Bomb: This is a helpful long ranged healing ability that restores a large amount of health to your target. Bacta Bomb draws from the same bacta supply as your Bacta Jab and though much more efficient, takes longer to recharge.
You can choose to train this expertise if you already have 16 points of Medic Specialization abilities and 1 point in Blood Cleansers.
Bacta Efficiency: If you have just 8 points trained in Medic Specialization, you might want to think about this expertise. Bacta Efficiency decreases the action costs of all your instant healing abilities.
Serotonin Boost: With this skill, you can help boost the morale of your team mates on the combat field. Serotonin Boost expertise induces a feeling of well being and allows the target to remain upbeat in the face of extreme adversity.
During combat this means your medic has the ability to remove harmful de-buffs (Note that some effects such as Cloning Sickness and Weakness are too strong to be removed with this ability).
To unlock this skill, you will first have to purchase 12 points in Medic Specialization and 3 points in Bacta Efficiency.
Bacta Grenade: Also in this expertise skill line is the ability to heal target players at long range. You can restore a portion of a player's health, but remember that Bacta Grenade draws from the same bacta supply as your Bacta Spray. It does recharge more quickly than Bacta Bomb though.
Enhancement Duration: If you want your medic to be a strong team player, then this expertise ability is something you might want to consider. Enhancement Duration will lengthen the amount of time that your enhancement buffs will last. Since the only prerequisite is to have 4 points in Medic Specialization, this skill is another economical way to improve a variety of your medic abilities.
Enhancement Specialist: If buffing other players is something that interests you, then this ability may be up your alley. Enhancement Specialist expertise grants the ability Metabolic Accelerators and extends the Nutrient Injection skill line.
With Metabolic Accelerators, you can temporarily increase a target player's metabolism, allowing for a more efficient conversion of stored calories to energy. Effectively, this means the target will have more Action points to use in combat.
To gain access to this ability, you'll have to train 8 points of Medic Specialization skills and 3 points in Enhancement Duration.
Reckless Stimulation: This skill is a desperate attempt to help turn the tide of battle. Reckless Stimulation allows you to spend your health points to use as action points. Though it is a risky move, you might be able to give yourself or your team mates the boost they need to win the day.
The pre-requisite is 12 points in Medic Specialization and 1 point in Enhancement Specialist, but it just might be the key skill for a winning team.
Stasis Field: Last in this expertise skill line is a unique ability. Stasis Field restrains and protects your target from harm and also from harming others. It works by giving the target a big defensive increase, almost stopping their offensive abilities, and almost completely stopping their ability to move.
This can be used defensively to help allies under heavy fire or offensively to prevent opponents from doing damage. If you're thinking about adding this expertise, you'll need 16 points of Medic Specialization and 1 point of Reckless Stimulation to unlock this skill.
Vital Efficiency: This is an entry level expertise ability that reduces the action cost of your Vital Strike special attacks (included with basic medic profession skills).
Bacta Corruption: Instead of healing your team mates, you can use this skill in combat to stop your opponents from healing. Bacta Corruption reduces the effectiveness of your target enemy's ability to heal. Once you have 4 points of Medic Specialization and 4 points of Vital Efficiency, this ability is unlocked.
Vital Accuracy: This skill increases the amount of damage you can cause with your Vital Strike special abilities. Vital Accuracy doesn't have any prerequisites and can be useful if you are focusing on developing your offensive capabilities.
Electrolyte Drain: Once you have 4 points of Medic Specialization abilities and 4 points trained in Vital Accuracy, you gain access to another possible offensive skill. Electrolyte Drain creates a chemical imbalance in your target, leaving them listless and reducing their movement speed.
Affliction Duration: With this expertise, your DoTs can be the gift s that keep on giving. Affliction Duration will make all of your DoTs last longer and the only prerequisite is having 8 points trained in Medic Specialization.
Traumatize: If you are interested in pursuing the ability to cause damage instead of heal then you might choose to build on this skill line. After you spend 12 points of Medic Specialization points and 3 points in Affliction Duration, you can purchase Traumatize.
This expertise gives your medic the ability to attack your opponent's senses, effectively reducing their action pool.
Thyroid Rupture: Reduce your opponent's ability to do damage in combat with this macabre attack. Thyroid Rupture is an attack on your target that stops their vital organs from working properly. As a result, their ability to do damage is diminished for a short period of time.
To train this ability, you'll first have to purchase 16 points of Medic Specialization and 1 point of Traumatize.
Affliction Intensity: Offensively trained medics who are developing their DoT attacks will want to consider this ability as well. Affliction Intensity increases the amount of damage delivered by all of your DoT attacks.
When combined with Affliction Intensity expertise, your DoT attacks will do more damage and last longer, making you a formidable opponent. With a prerequisite of only 8 points in Medic Specialization, this is an inexpensive skill that can significantly boost your damage output.
Serotonin Purge: If you have purchased 12 points in Medical Specialization and 3 points of Affliction Intensity, you will gain access to this ability. Serotonin Purge will cause feelings of hopelessness in a target enemy. As a result, they will have one of their beneficial buff effects removed.
Rheumatic Calamity: On the offensive side of medic development is another strange internal attack. If you have 16 points of Medic Specialization and 1 point of Serotonin Purge, you can purchase Rheumatic Calamity. If you do, you will be able to cause intense swelling, searing pain and joint dislocation in your enemies.
As a result, they will suffer by losing health points whenever they spend action points (very handy in PvP).
